How to get to Bangkok
and where to stay.
Dates
Because it takes a long time to get to Bangkok from the states, we tend to go for around three weeks, so we'll be in town well before the wedding and for a week or two after.
With the wedding being on the 28th, it appears that the best time to fly to Bangkok would be the 25th or earlier. You can leave on the 26th, but unless you fly direct, there's a chance you might land on the 28th.
Unfortunately, December is the high season so it's important to book sooner rather than later. Also, we've noticed that ticket prices jump if you depart after December 14th. So if you have the time, leaving sooner is cheaper.
Flights
You can look for flights with any carrier. Thai Airways used to offer a direct flight, although it appears that they have now cancelled it. They still run a large number of connecting flight to Bangkok. There are also a couple of travel agents that specialize in flights to Thailand.
Skyworld Express 212.953.7190
Thaifly.com (We prefer Skyworld, but you can check Thaifly as a back-up)
Where to stay
Royal Suites - If you are planning on being in Bangkok for a short period (mostly for the ceremony) - this place is right down the street from the Tersch's. Staff will be standing by to help arrange day trips, etc. and also there will be transportation on the wedding day to and from the ceremony and reception. We were able to get a special rate of 1900 baht per room (about $61) a night. The room sleeps two start people and includes a kitchenette, TV, small rooftop pool and breakfast. Here is a link for more info. If you want to book, please send an email to Piyawan@royalsuite-bkk.net and sales@royalsuite-bkk.com and mention you are part of Kayvalyn's group. Click here to email.
Additional options
Here are some places we've found online that had great reviews and offer a range of convenience and comfort.
Of course, you're welcome to stay wherever you'd like in Bangkok. We're still continuing to review and get personal recommendations, but these are good places to check out (most are reviewed on Trip Advisor). Click here for a map of where our wedding events will be held so you can compare them against possible hotels.
